Perishables

Consumers are critical of fresh, chilled, or frozen products. Perishable goods are sensitive to damage and require strict transportation guidelines, often in temperature-controlled environments. Refrigerated containers are commonly used for transport. Damage is usually discovered upon receipt.

Claims often arise from temperature issues caused by defective reefer units, poor stowage, insufficient pre-cooling, incorrect temperature settings, or inadequate packaging. Problems with ventilation and controlled atmosphere also occur.
Our company is experienced in assessing damage to fruit and vegetable shipments in containers, including tropical climacteric fruit that produces ethylene, such as bananas, mangoes, avocados, and subtropical fruits like apples and pears. We also investigate non-climacteric fruits like citrus fruits, strawberries, and pineapples.

Frozen products like fish and meat can easily be damaged if the cold chain is broken. We frequently investigate chilled cargo with temperature-related issues such as deformations from thawing, spoilage, freezer burn, and contamination damage.
